The Spring 2010 season is right around the corner. We are now accepting team registrations for the upcoming CABO season.
The first game of the Spring 2010 season is set for March 7. The league fee is $300/player, based on a 16-man roster.
For each returning CABO player, there is a $20 credit (with a maximum of 16 credits per team). Any prospective player without
a team is highly encouraged to attend the tryouts on February 7, at a field to be determined. Managers looking to complete their
team will draft from the tryouts.
CHATSWORTH, CA -- The Shockers and Black Sox played a solid, competitive game for much of the game. The first 5 innings was a pitchers' dual,
with Colin Ward-Henninger going neck-to-neck with Cale Hamilton. The Black Sox finally pulled ahead 2-1 in the top of the 5th with Hamilton's RBI
single. Cole Van Buryn broke the game open in the top of the 6th with a 3-run homerun. The Black Sox poured on an addional 3 runs in both the 8th
9th innings, as the Shockers seemed deflated by the point. David Talley provided some of the fireworks with an 8th-inning solo shot to
center field, his third of the fall season. Kyle Love added more insurance runs with a 2-RBI single later in the 8th. Catcher Matt Horn
led all hitters with a 4 for 5 performance and 4 runs scored.
The Shockers mounted a small
comeback of their own in the bottom of the 9th, scoring 4 runs and leaving the tying run two spots away from the on-deck hitter. Tom Rochin,
Jason Surat, Greg Borish, and Anthony Khoury all knocked in a run, but it was too little, too late as the Black Sox hung on for a the 11-5
victory.
Congrats to both the Storm and Los Doyers for
a great season. The large turnout of families and friends at Jackie Robinson Stadium provided for a terrific
conclusion to the Inaugural CABO season!
WESTWOOD, CA -- The Storm went down to the wire against Los Doyers, stranding the tying run at 2nd in the bottom of the 9th.
Los Doyers barely hung on for 12-11 victory, as they survived two near comebacks of 4+ runs from the Storm. When it looked as
if the Storm were done heading into the bottom of the 8th and down by 5, they scored twice and then 3 more in the 9th.
Los Doyers opened the game with a bang and scored 4 quick runs to open the 1st. Nick Santoro ignited the scoring with a
towering homerun
to left. Danny Stevenson and Will Volkmann both singled to complete the scoring. The Storm got on the board the following inning, with an RBI
double from Brett Tonkiss. Stevenson notched his second RBI single of the game in the top fo the 3rd to put Los Doyers up 5-1. The 4th inning was
the only scoreless inning of the game.
The stars of CABO were out. It was a great day for baseball at Valley College. All of the top players from each of the league's 6 teams
were in attendance. The first-place Doyers teamed up with the Gamecocks and Sandlot to face the team comprised of players from the Kings,
Storm, and Titans.
Congrats to Marshall Plouffe, who won the first annual CABO Homerun Derby. His 4 homeruns were enough to win the contest. Plouffe excited the
crowd with a couple mammoth homeruns early in the round, including a 400+ foot shot to straight-away center. Josh Miranda, of the
Gamecocks, finished 2nd, with his 3 towering homeruns to right field.

The All-Star game itself followed the Homerun Derby. The West All-Stars, managed by Kings' manager, AG Gersh, defeated the East All-Stars, who were
managed by Nick Santoro of Los Doyers. In what looked like a blowout after the 6th inning, the East battled back to pull within 5 at 13-8. However, it was too
little, too late. Jess Sanchez shut the door for the West by pitching the last 2 innings. It was a total team effort in the win for the West. Matt Wabby of
the Kings started on the mound, throwing 3 innings and giving up only 1 ER. Chris Kane followed with a solid 2 scoreless innings. Harry Grace pitched
the next 2 innings, before giving way to Sanchez in the 8th. The West's hitting was very balanced, as 12 of the 14 players had at least one hit. Brett Tonkiss
of the Storm led all batters with 3 hits.
The East All-Stars also had a couple good hitting performance from Angel Espindola and Mike Noteware of Sandlot and Marshall Plouffe of Los Doyers, who each had
2 hits. Steve Diaz of Sandlot scored twice and stole 2 bases. Jason Mitchell missed a homerun by less than 2 feet, with his 7th shot of the left-center wall. Even
though he was held to a long single, it scored Alan Eldridge from 1st, to pull within 5 runs.
By the end of the game, it was Jose Angulo of the Titans, whose performance stood out most, en route to earning MVP honors (and a Nike team helmet).
Angulo broke the game open in the 1st with his bases-loaded line-drive double, scoring 3 runs. In the 5th, Angulo also hit a 2-run single to ignite the
West's rally. Not only was it his hitting, but also Angulo's strong fielding at second base, which solidified his MVP honors. Every ball hit his way was converted into an out.
In the 7th inning, Angulo made the defensive play of the game on a sharply hit ground ball that appeared to take a last-second bad hop. Angulo barehanded the
ball and calmly threw out the runner. That play received a standing ovation from the dugout.
